Texas Parent-Taught Teen Drivers Ed
Purchase and Register for the Teen Drivers Ed course. You will need to complete the first 6 hours to unlock DPS Written Exam.
As per Texas law, any student completing the Parent-Taught method must also purchase the TDLR Parent Taught Guide ($20): https://www.tdlr.texas.gov/ParentTaught/PTSelect.aspx
Pass DPS Written Exam to receive the certificate for the permit. The DPS written exam is multiple choice and contains 40 questions. You will have 3 attempts to pass the exam.
After passing you will receive your certificate (DE-964) via email.
Print the certificate and present it to your local DPS office. They will take your picture, conduct an eye exam, and collect fingerprints. DPS will then issue you the Learners License (permit)!
After obtaining your Learners License (permit) you may begin the behind-the wheel training hours.
The student will complete the 44-hours behind-the-wheel with the assigned parent.
COMPLETE remaining 26-hours of the Online Course and HOLD permit for 6 months.
Book Your Road Exam ONLINE with DPS. Upon passing the DPS Road Exam, DPS will then issue out the drivers license!
Parent Taught Drivers Ed is alternative method rather than Driving School.
Students will complete the 32 classroom hours with DrivingQuest and the 44 hours behind-the-wheel the parent.
The instructor must be the student’s parent, step-parent, grandparent, step-grandparent, foster parent or legal guardian appointed by a court. A power of attorney is not considered a legal guardian. Additionally, a parent, legal guardian, or a judge of a court with jurisdiction over the student can designate a person to instruct the course who:

*This guide is required by the state of Texas for any student completing a Parent-Taught course.
Students who wish to transfer to a driving school to complete their 14-hour of behind-the-wheel training can do so by sending an email to support@drivingquest.com. Transfer Fee: $29.95.
You will receive credit for all 32 classroom hours and only be required to complete the driving hours with the driving school.

Yes! Our course includes the official DPS written exam. We will send your a permit certificate once you complete the first six(6) hours of the course.
